Traveling
I would have to say that traveling is one of the harder to do things now, I don’t mean roadtrips, but I refer to the cross country stuff. Flying from Portland to New York City.
There is also always the persistent fear that my chair will get somehow damaged or even more likely, destroyed. And I will end up on the other side of the nation with no means to move through the airport, forget my destination.
And its a hassle, albeit a neccesary one to get through all the security checkpoints.
Most folks in a wheelchair have this blank look, like the one that say “I am not here I am in my happy place”. Where do they go? I am not sure, but I bet I have been there before.
And the workers there always are so completely shocked that I might travel alone. They must assume because I can’t walk I can’t travel on my own free will. I am inĀ wheelchair, not a nursing home.
